Syntax is the technical requirement the query must have to return the results you want. If the query is not properly formed, a result cannot be given. Think of proper sentence structure—should a question not end with a question mark? Syntax is similar to grammar rules. If you don’t follow the rules your query won’t work. Each query can have several components and each component may have a requirement. When we talk about Syntax we are referring to what the RDBMS needs to process your query.
